Folon. A journey in Brussels
Springtime in Brussels is a magical season, where the city’s artistic pulse beats fervently. Among its many cultural gems, one mustn’t overlook the enchanting world of Folon.
Nestled within the verdant embrace of La Hulpe, just outside Brussels, the Folon Foundation invites visitors to immerse themselves in the whimsical universe of Brussels artist Jean-Michel Folon.
Between February and September, the Folon Foundation, in collaboration with three Brussels museums, promises a vibrant calendar of events, including workshops, guided tours, and special exhibitions throughout the city. Whether you’re a seasoned art enthusiast or simply seeking inspiration, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Museum Magritte highlights the resonances between the works, language, links, and distinctive features of both Magritte and Folon, who discovered Magritte when he was in his twenties. To Folon, this discovery was a revelation. “You really can do anything in painting. Even invent mysteries,” he thought.
In the well-known Maison Autrique, one of the first houses designed by Horta and both a majestic and intimate setting at the same time, one can be immersed in Jean-Michel Folon’s interest in different techniques and the result of him being a compulsive collector.
A third exhibition is organized by the Museo Civico Garda and the Associazione Archivio Storico Olivetti in Ivrea, Italy, in partnership with the Fondation Folon and the Design Museum Brussels and focuses on the connection between Folon and the famous Italian company Olivetti. It gives the spectator an insight into the world of advertising design during a progressive period.
In essence, Folon in Brussels this spring isn’t just an exhibition—it’s an invitation to embark on a journey of creativity and discovery. So, as the flowers bloom and the sun shines, why not step into Folon’s world and let your imagination soar?
